Financial Report 2023

Uh-oh. John's wearing a suit. This can only mean one thing. It's time for The Bank of DFTBA.club's semi-annual report.

The spreadsheet below will give you all the fine details, but overall our server proves that a small, voluntarily user-funded Mastodon Server can be successful. We currently have 283 registered users with 73 of those regularly active and 15 Patreon patrons. Since we started, we've posted over 58k toots; of which 39k are public, 7k are limited, ~700 are follower-only, and 10k are direct.

My average donation (the average of the deficit each month, about $5.45) is on-par with the average donation from one of our members (about $5.80). Patreon, Processing Fees, and Currency Conversion Fees currently take a cut of about 15% of donations; which isn't great but having them handle all the billing and cutting me a 1099-K each year is worth something.

I included the first two months of 2024 so I could reference the recent increase in storage costs. We'll be stable at 300gb for probably the next year or two at current usage rates, but I wanted to highlight that this will always be a rising cost as content is created. Our 8gb of RAM is about the right size but still makes me eyeball it sometimes when there's a heavy load (lots of posts, mass changes like account deletions or server blocks). I'm not concerned about it right now but could be an upgrade cost in the future.

The amounts below do not include one-time or annual fees like domain name renewals, etc.

If you have any questions. You know where to find me.
